NOW CASTING

Center Theatre Group is producing a staged reading of WEST, a new musical about The Final Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, based on the characters of Mark Twain and the novel HUCK OUT WEST by Robert Coover. It follows the lives of the beloved American literary characters as they become adults and embark on brand new adventures, encountering Native American cultures and heroes, all while confronting and reevaluating the stories that have formed their personal and collective histories. 

WEST was co-written by Tara Moses (Seminole Nation of Oklahoma) and Andy Mientus. The reading will be directed by Michael Arden. Music and Lyrics by Jackson Teeley. Additional Music and Lyrics by Wade Fernandez (Menominee). Dramaturgy by Charli Fool Bear (Lakota/Dakota). Casting by The Telsey Office/Craig Burns and tbd casting co/Tanis Parenteau (Métis Nation of Alberta).

The reading will rehearse from August 13th-18th, with a presentation on August 18th in NYC. Please note in your submission where you are based and if you are able to work as a local to NYC (meaning you do not need travel or accommodations).

We are looking for Native American (American Indian) actors for the following roles. Please note – not all roles require singing

  • YOUNG LEVI/NATIVE AMERICAN CHILD
    Native American (Lakota), any gender, 10-16. Flick's younger sibling, placed in an Indian Boarding School. This role does not require singing. All gender identities are encouraged to submit! Open to seeing actors from all American Indian tribal nations.

  • JOE
    Native American (Lakota), Male, 30s-50s. Initially presented in regalia for a vaudeville show. Later seen as a ghost or haunting presence for Huck. Revealed to be a Lakota man who was framed for murder. This role may not require singing. Looking for both actors who can sing/carry a tune (does not have to be musical theater) and actors who do not sing. Open to seeing actors from all American Indian tribal nations.

  • CALAMITY JANE & OTHERS
    Native American (American Indian) Female, 20s. Seeking musical theater actors and actors who can sing well.

  • NATIVE MALE ENSEMBLE
    Native American (American Indian) Male, 30s. Seeking musical theater actors and actors who can sing well.
